You also get 4GB of internal memory with about 2.7Gb available

I would definitely Go for the Xoloq800, Its cheaper, has the same specs, Performs much better (I heard that Mircomax a116 hangs a lot and is very Buggy) and best of all is in stock :)

It's in stock again  at so buy it quick before it goes out of stock.

    Hi Leo,

    Thanks for the review.

I do not see any mention about the above in Xolo website. Also, read in some of the reviews that Q800 does not have the Hotspot and/ or USB Tethering capability? Can you please let me know whether Q800 has got WiFi Hotspot and/ or USB Tethering capability?

Also, would like to know the Sound quality (both for voice call and music/ videos).

Thanks a lot for the valuable info LEO. You have answered all of my queries. I will be buying the phone on wednesday.
Some minor queries, please answer if you can:
1)It is built on MT6589 the same chipset as MMX A116, the chipset supports dual sim active standby so please let me know if it is available in xolo.
    2) It says it can play 1080p videos. That's fine but will it play 1080p mkv files with the help of other players like mx player if required?
    3) I am also confused between HTC Amaze 4G which is available for around 14k. Which will be a better buy q800 or amaze 4g?

  11. Leo March 17, 2013 at 4:56 AM

Anirdom :1) Yes it supports dual sim

    2) yes it plays 1080p mkv files with the default player

    3) Considering the features and the price go for this buddy, you won't regret it

Hi leo...just wanna know about display and resolution this phone it at par with canvas hd....or there is considerable differerence in both the phones...?

Hav to buy a new phone in couple of days.., so plz reply

  16. Anant March 17, 2013 at 9:16 PM

    Hello Friend,

Thank you so much for your quick reply. As you said that it does not have paneroma option in camera. Can we get any apps for fulfilling its absent.

    Anant (Anantkumar)

  17. Leo March 18, 2013 at 1:42 AM

@Jitu: There is not much diff, HD is 5 inches so the view will definitely be bigger but it will drain u battery. Canvas also has a lot of problems and a long wait time to buy. Xolo does not compromise on quality or picture it is an excellent phone for the price so if you are stuck between xolo and HD go for it.

@Anant: not sure about the app, will check if you can check play store and post the link of the app I can install it n let you know

I posted my query on your youtube video comment section but I don't know why my comment always gets erased so am posting my query here :
    1) The phone is said to have Magnetometer, so did you tried using a Digital Compass? If yes then is it working?
    2) Is Q800 has any notification led near front ear piece?

    Please reply, Thanks!

  19. Leo March 19, 2013 at 12:58 AM

    Hi Yes Digital Compass works,
No notification led near front earpiece

  20. Unknown March 19, 2013 at 1:09 AM

Does Xolo Q800 do Full HD videos (1080p)? Also, if you could comment on quality and format (mp4/3gp/avi?) of recorded videos.
I've almost made up my mind for Xolo Q800.

  21. Anant March 19, 2013 at 6:06 AM

    Dear Friend,
Keep posting your daily experience and issues of this phone.

  24. Unknown March 19, 2013 at 9:30 PM

    Hi Leo G,

Thanks for replying to my query :)
Can you tell me something about the sound quality of q800 through good quality headphones?

  25. Anant March 19, 2013 at 9:31 PM

    Hello Friend,

Post some colorful pictures by using Xolo q800 camera. The pictures you posted are not that colorful. Also please record an hd clip and post it also.

Have you notice the battery power? I mean for a general use can it last for 2 days?

How is the phone vibration power. When I had used Micromax A110 I have noticed that the vibration wasn't good as like Nokia phones.

Please try any call recorder and see if it works. Both side voice should be recorded. I die for call recording app. While using Nokia 5233 I have used several call recording apps and some of them had worked well.

Just visited a mobile store and seen Karboon Retina mobile. It has inbuilt call recording app (in system)

  26. sagy March 19, 2013 at 10:27 PM

Which type of video files are supported by this device???

  27. Leo March 20, 2013 at 4:26 AM

@rohit :Good going you won't regret it,

The sound Quality is awesome no noise or disturbance very clear sound, even through hear phones.

@AnantKumar : will post on the weekend busy with work but you can join the fb page n check, pics are added by others.

Battery can easily last for 2 days for normal use

Vibration is as good as nokia.

Can you suggest a call recording app will install n check it out,

@sagy All major file types, mp3, mp4, jpeg, 3gp etc

  28. Anant March 20, 2013 at 4:55 AM

I have used Total Recall, Killer Mobile and other call recording apps on Nokia and the same have tried on Micromax A110 but didn't worked anyone. So download any call recording apps. (Total recall) and test it on Xolo q800 if it works.

  29. Leo March 20, 2013 at 6:05 AM

added a few more close up pics, ok will try call recording n get back

  30. Anant March 20, 2013 at 7:22 AM

  32. Leo March 20, 2013 at 7:52 AM

yes dude it has a front camera

  33. Anant March 20, 2013 at 9:10 AM

    Hello Friend,

Mr. ASHISH has asked that does XOLO Q800 HAS 3G VIDEO DIALER? Means, he is asking that can we make video calls and you said that it has front facing camera... not correct answer...

Many phones have front facing camera but no video calling option in dialer or in contact settings....

for video calling we have to use skype... Am I right?

    Correct question is:
Does it have video calling option in dialer or anywhere?

  34. Anant March 20, 2013 at 7:55 PM

Can we listen FM on loudspeaker mode?

How fast is gps lock?does it support glonass

  36. Ash Kr March 21, 2013 at 12:59 AM

dude, have you tried out any live wallpapers yet?

if you do, do try the water one - in which reflections or shadows of leaves are there, and waves form when you touch the screen. I fell in love with that one when I saw it for the first time on my cousin's htc desire 3 years ago.

  37. Anant March 23, 2013 at 1:17 AM

    finally bought this phone :)

how can apps be installed on an
    External SD card without rooting?

  46. revonxt April 3, 2013 at 4:53 AM

I got my Q800 yesterday and for its price(got it for 12K from eBay), it is a fantastic piece of hardware.

I did, however, encounter a serious issue with its Wi-Fi. No matter what I do, it just won't connect to any of my Wi-Fi networks(tried with two routers from two different manufacturers). My home Wi-Fi network has been running just fine for the past couple of years without any issues whatsoever and many client devices including android devices have connected to it without a hitch.

At first, the Wi-Fi network signal is shown as excellent but as soon as I try to connect, there is a drastic drop in signal strength and the network status immediately changes to "Not in range" even though I'm just 2-3 feet away from the router itself. This happens for most of the times, otherwise, either nothing happens at all or the network status keeps toggling between "Authentication Problem" and "Not in range".

Another issue seems to be with the Wi-Fi hotspot. As soon as I turn it on, the backside of the mobile (where the rear camera is located) gets hot, I mean very hot. Is this normal?. It gets hot under 5-6 minutes. Leave it for some more time and it gets so hot that I find it very difficult to hold the phone, let alone using it. And yes, the hotspot network SSID doesn't show up in other Wi-Fi clients.

Although there are many reports on the net about Wi-Fi issues with Jelly Bean but the insane behavior of this phone's Wi-Fi seems to indicate that there might be a hardware issue with the phone's Wi-Fi.

I've already reported this to Xolo and they have arranged for a pickup in 24 hours. I hope they can sort out this mess.

  47. Leo April 3, 2013 at 11:55 AM

I do not find any issues with the wifi, Mine is working perfectly, Try posting in the forums or checking with xolo care and let me know what they say

  48. revonxt April 5, 2013 at 1:51 PM

    @Leo - I guess it's just my phone.

Xolo care is very dodgy. They had arranged for a pickup day before yesterday and the FedEx guy is yet to show up. I've been following up with Xolo care via calls and Emails. It is quiet amusing because the service center itself is not even 3 Kilometers from my residence and I myself can't go and hand over the mobile as they will only accept it through the affiliated courier service!.

Yesterday evening when I called up Xolo care and asked why the scheduled pickup which is already late by a day hasn't happened yet. He responded back: So?. I realized it may be too much to ask for basic human intelligence. And when I recited the issue, he didn't even respond; not even a word. I had to disconnect after several hellos. I'm afraid this might turn into an ordeal but anyway, lets see.

  49. revonxt April 10, 2013 at 2:14 PM

It took more than a week, several number of Emails, calls and yet they failed to make the pickup happen. During this time, FedEx cancelled two scheduled pickups because of blatantly stupid mistakes made by Xolo care.

A day before yesterday, I even went to their service center where they checked and acknowledged the Wi-Fi issue but since it is a nontrivial issue, they asked me to ship the phone via FedEx. This time, I myself had FedEx schedule the pickup and also had them bill Lava International. The phone was finally on the move and it took me less than 3 hours to wind up everything. Be advised that FedEx pickup and drop service is no good either but its a different story altogether(I will cover it when I share my whole experience elsewhere; will post a link here).

If anyone gets in to this kind of pickup insanity. I advise to directly check with FedEx. You'll need the booking ID mentioned in the pickup confirmation e-mail from FedEx. Ask them to arrange a pickup and have them bill Lava International as well. Better yet, rather than waiting for the FedEx guy to show up, go to their nearest office and hand over the package.

I have had experienced some good, bad and very bad customer service. But damn, Xolo care is outright obnoxious.

Sorry for my lengthy posts but people have to know that all the claims on the internet about Xolo's tie up with FedEx for reverse logistics is nothing but a marketing gimmick.

And thanks also for the tip about Fedex service. May I know if your phone has finally been repaired to your satisfaction? Which city do you live in ?

  56. Rahul July 2, 2013 at 5:47 AM

come on xolo q800 was a killer phone but now with the cheaper processor it doesnot make any sense buying this rather than buying this people will be happier with q700 which has the same processor and a bigger battery life. shame on xolo for downgrading q800 to q 700 level. and 8 mp camera is not a justification to sell 800 at a price higher than 700
